Condolence: My deepest sympathies to the McElvie family. I had the pleasure of meeting Ron a number of times during the years that Wendy and I were roommates. He left quite an impression and all these years later it is easy to recall his sense of humor and booming laugh. My fondest memory is the time that I joined the family on a trip to Florida where I witnessed his generosity and his caring nature. Ron, Bernadette and David all treated me like a member of the family. I will never forget that. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.. lots of love Always and forever

Condolence From: Michelle Poturnak
Condolence: My sincere condolences to Bernadette, Wendy, David and the entire family. Wendy & I have been friends for 36 years & one of the first things I learned about her was how much she adored her Dad. My first & lasting memory of Ron was his head thrown back in laughter. I'm sure the number of laughs the family has shared cannot be counted. I heard him tell Wendy on more than one occasion how proud he was of her & she no less proud of him. My heart goes out to the family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for sharing the laughter Ron. We'll keep on smiling as we think fond memories of you.

Condolence: It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to Bop. It is with great pride that I had the honour of being his only granddaughter. His sense of humour was like no other. He taught me how to laugh at myself. Sometimes he would laugh with me, other times he would laugh at me. He taught me to bait a hook, ride a quad, sleep outdoors and be fearless. He supported me and encouraged me to follow my dreams. I never saw him without a book. He was always discovering his latest read or playing a new mind game. He was brilliant and his mind was sharp right to the end. I will always remember my time with him at the cabin just the two of us. He was incredibly special to me and I will miss him so much. He will always have a place in my heart. Whenever I am in a forest or surrounded by nature, I will think of Bop.

Condolence: It was with great sadness that I learned of his passing. Sad as it is, there are so many things about his life and his influence on my life that will always make me smile. Dowd Lake, Badger Lake, and the Kiwanis Music Festival (remember Billy Boy) are a few. Thinking of all of you at this time and really happy to hear Dave tell me that he kept his sense of humour till the end.

Condolence: Mrs. McKelvie, Wendy and Dave; Please except our sincere condolences on the passing of your husband and father. Mr McKelvie was a very friendly man who always seemed to keep me busy during my high school years, doing odd jobs around his home or on his pine plantation at the cabin. He definitely had a passion for cooking, especailly spicy foods... Although we can't be there this evening to celebrate his wonderful life, please remember you all are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Condolence From: Rick Matton (son-in-law)
Condolence: It's an impossible task for me to enter a condolence because there are just far too many amazing things to say about Ron over our 30+ years together, but I'll try to share a bit. From the very first day we met at The Four Seasons in downtown Toronto and he said, "you want to what?? marry Wendy?? you must be crazy my son?" Ron always treated me as a his second son the whole time ever since... He gave us lots and lots of laughs and smiles that came ever since that day. Ron always did everything to make sure all those around him were looked after, he was a very generous man with a great sense of humour that was passed on to David who has taken it to a whole new level of hilarious, but it started with Ron. Ron easily made the transition from the main land to become a true Newfoundlander when he married Bernadette, the love of his life. We shared a ton of fun during his visits back here on the main land, watching multiple world junior championship games at Christmas, and golfing or just plain floating with a good book in the spring and early summer, and visiting there in NFLD was simply amazing, and yes, I have been out on the ocean turring and we skated across most of Badger Lake! Ron was just a very lovable enjoyable guy to be around and he always wanted to know if everyone else was OK first! He had fun after everyone else, Thanks for all of what you gave us and shared with us, we all love you
