Condolence From: Jill Hiscock
Condolence: Marion, Sharon, Janet, and Jeffrey: I want to tell you how very saddened I am about Jip's (Mr. Lake to me)passing. Always quiet, gentle, and kind he was the type of person that when he did speak, one listened. I remember well those years where our families were intertwined both in Grand Falls and in Kingsport. I can still here Mom, Marion, and Joan saying "now, the men will be back soon so it's time to go up" (you'll know what I mean). I know my own desire to tell stories and jokes and laugh until I lose my breath was influenced by hearing you parents do this during parties, bridge night and any time you all got together. I will never forget my time in Grand Falls and in Kingsport and you can be sure that any time I reflect on those years, all of you will be in my thoughts. I'd like to think a bit of a reunion happened on May 24th as "life-long friends and crowd circle are greeting him." My love and prayers to all of you. Jill

Condolence From: Lynne (Hiscock) Sears
Condolence: Dear Lake Family, These times always evoke memories of days past. We kids pretty much grew up together in Kingsport , and of course in Grand Falls. It was hard to get to sleep when your group was around. With an ear to the door I listened to everything I could hoping to hear a juicy tidbit, or two. There certainly were many laughs and stories worth repeating. My two favorite memories ; Jannie, Pammie Lakeo and checha nonie ever googie. Jasper's obituary was so tender and warm. It really embraced who he was as a professional, private and Christian man. How lucky were we all to have him in our lives and to have his example as children? May your fond memories and family moments sustain you all during this very sad time. You have lost a warm and loving man. May he be united with his comrades who went before him. Lynne

Condolence: Hello Marion, Sharon, and Janie Pamie Lakeo, and Family. My oh my, I was saddened to hear of Jip's passing a moment ago,and I want to send my sincere sympathy to you all. My parents and you and Jip, Marion, had a lot of wonderful times together in Grand Falls and Kingsport N.S. over the years, and I know they always enjoyed seeing you both coming because it was sure to be a good time, with lots of good food, stories and laughs. Marion, you and Mom and Joan Penney used to get hysterical sometimes you laughed so hard, and it so affected the rest of us that everyone was laughing and we thought we'd never stop.Great times. Indeed, it was better than a concert,as they say. Great memories with you both. Cherish his memory and remember, you will meet again on that other shore. Jasper was a good man,a solid man, who helped a lot of people in their quest for a good education. May God Bless you in your hour of grief and I am sure the Lord will Love him as much as you did. Sincerely. Frank.

Condolence From: Ira Barrow
Condolence: Marion and family: I was truly saddened when I learned your loved one had crossed the bar. Fifty-six years ago I met Mr. Lake who was then the Supervising Principal at Bishops Falls, when I taught at the Plant School. Jasper was a gentleman and a wonderful mentor. I remember clearly, though I only had six-weeks of training at Summer School, he treated me as respectfully as he did those on staff with much higher qualifications. Jasper truly taught as much, or more, by example as he did in any other way. He was a good friend, and through the ensuing years we always had a pleasant chat whenever we met, most times at The Salvation Army, Adams Ave., St. Johns. That is where I met him for the last time, around Christmastime 2014, I believe. We were so engrossed in conversation that day he had to be dragged to his pew. I shall always remember those few moments which are still quite clear in my mind. My wife Amy joins in an expression of deepest sympathy in these days of deep sorrow.

Condolence: Marion, so sorry to hear of Jip's passing. Condolences from our family to yours. I have so many fond memoires of you and Jip along with Uncle Otto and Aunt Olive visiting my parents, and have your tea and bun before you head back home. You would be there for about an hour and Jip would start looking at his watch, "now Marion, we have to leave before it gets dark (of course Marion always made him wait). You have many memories to cherish after all of your years together. God Bless you.

Condolence: Mrs. Lake & family, I got to know Mr. Lake when he was working with the school board and I was secretary at the Point Leamington School system. On his visits to the school he would always take the time to engage in a meaningful conversation with me. Although I don't know your children personally I know their names as he would be sure to talk about one or the other. I was so delighted that Mr. Lake was the guest speaker at the board's retirement ceremony when I retired. I have always had a great deal of respect for him. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy at this sad time.

Condolence: The Family of the late Mr. jasper Lake Allow me to share my condolences on the loss of your loved one. Mr. lake was an individual that shared his passion and love for the teaching profession with students, families, and yes, almost everyone. It was my privilege to have had him as a professor of education. He did this during summer sessions and evening courses with MUN's extension program. One would certainly leave each and every class with an abundance of knowledge as provided for teaching. May you always find comfort in your cherished memories of a man who stood 'very tall' among his colleagues. rIP Mr. lake.

Condolence From: Len and Laura Williams
Condolence: Marion and family, We were deeply saddened to hear the news of Jasper's passing and send our condolences to all of you who are feeling the pain of this loss. I first met Jasper when I was beginning my teaching career in Bishop's Falls where he was my supervising principal. I remember how respected he was in the whole town and although he was not a tall man, people looked up to him. He was always very professional but warm in his dealings with others and because of that he endeared himself to those who had the privilege of working with him. Our paths became more entwined in later years and we shared in many social times together. It was a joy to meet Sharon and her husband some time ago and see how well she is doing. It was not difficult to feel the influence of her parents. We wish we were there with you at this sad time, but you are very much in our thoughts and prayers as you go through these difficult days. You have been left a legacy of love that will carry you through. God bless you.

Condolence: Mrs. Lake (Marion), Sharon, Janet, Jeffrey and families, I was so sad to hear about Mr. Lake when Mom called me. He was such a part of the fabric of my growing up, especially in the church and I can remember many a visit to your home where he and I would talk about teaching, working at the CBC, education, world happenings.....he always had something insightful, thoughtful or simply comedic to say ! His loss has also reopened the wound from losing Dad. I know how much my father respected and valued Mr. Lake's friendship and companionship. They had so much in common....which says alot about both of them. Please know I am thinking about you all. My sincerest sympathies, Suzanne

Condolence: Marion, Sharon, Janet and Jeffrey, so sorry to hear of Jip's passing. Marion and Jip have been friends of Mom's for almost sixty years. From those early years in Bishops Falls (Marion stood for Mom when she got married) through the years when we were neighbours on St. Catherine's street in Grand Falls, and through many visits over the years since Mom moved to St. John's. The wonderful memories from the years on Kingsport Beach, Nova Scotia. My memories of Mr. Lake are of a quiet, deeply thoughtful man who was a mirror to Mrs. Lake's rich sense of humour. Condolence: Although it has been well over forty years since Mr. Lake was my principal in high school, I remember him with great fondness & respect. Even though he was a man of small stature, when he entered a room he brought authority with him. I remember his dignity & gentleness. Believe it or not, his picture is on my refrigerator. I received the girl of the year cup when I graduated but was away in university when it was to have been presented. About 5 years ago in connection with the 100th birthday of Bishop's Falls, there was a meet & greet for former students & the cup was thereso I had Mr. Lake present it to me then, the picture I had taken has been on my fridge door ever since. You have been blessed to have had him in your lives for so long. My condolences & prayers for Mrs. Lake in particular & his sister, Mrs. Reid. God bless you all.

Condolence: Our condolences to all the family. Mr. Lake was often around at family gatherings - though much of his time may have been spent watching baseball downstairs in Donette's and Jeff's basement if he could get away with it. He was always up for anything Mrs. Lake wanted him to do which often meant dressing up in a silly costume for his grandsons' Halloween parties. He always did it with a smile on his face. His presence will surely be missed. Thinking of you all at this time.

Condolence From: Trevor Stryde
Condolence: Aunt Marion, Sharon, Kevin, Janet, Tom, Jeff and Donnette, I'm so very torn. I'm saddened that we have all lost Uncle Jip and yet thankful that his passing was without too much pain and suffering. He was a loving and adoring father, husband and grandfather. Over the years I quite liked those times when he and I would sit together at a dinner table while Aunt Marion and her brothers were loudly telling tales of Bridgeport. Uncle Jip would quietly lean into my ear and poke a little fun at the Strydes and then chat away with me about his experiences as a boy. He was always very interested in my life and particularly my education. I spent much of this weekend quietly puttering away in my own garden and Jip was much in my thoughts. He was quite the gardener and that pursuit suited his personality perfectly. He loved to show me his garden when I'd visit. Curiously, this years garden was never as good as last years! Please know that you're all in my thoughts. I am thankful that Jip was a positive influence in my life. He was a man who lived what he believed, we are all better to have known him. Trevor, Cathy and family
