Condolence From: Chad Downey
Condolence: To Nan and the rest of the family and friends, it's with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Pop. So many great memories of this man from driving in his old truck with Newfoundland tunes playin and him giving me loonies from his change compartment (that I would blow on candy from the store) to just sitting and listening to his many amazing stories of the great Newfoundland outdoors. He certainly played a huge role in making me the man I am today. As hard as it is to say goodbye to him, with the amazing family and friends that surround us all we'll keep his memory alive with the small everyday events we sometimes take for granted. He would of expected nothing less from us. Miss you Pop buddy xo

Condolence From: Aubrey Smith & family
Condolence: I must relate an incident from the 1960's when I worked in the paper mill to finance my university education .I was working with Pastor Whitt's son who later became a pastor I believe .Anyway, we were on the 4 o'clock shift and finished at 12 midnight and we decided to go salmon fishing at Sop's Arm .We tried west Bottom , no luck and finally reached Sop's Arm in the late morning. We tried to hook a salmon but no luck. It was also getting quite warm, so we lay down on the rock in the river and fell asleep having been on the go since the previous morning followed by a 8 hr. shift in the Mill. When we woke up, what did we see but Cyril Downey hauling in this big salmon .I did lots of trouting in my life time but my salmon career ended on that day .I've related this story to Theresa Sampson , Cyril's sister, many times .C'est la vie .from then on I pretended to be was a reluctant conservationist but in truth I was a lousy salmon fisherman.Rest in peace Cyril and our condolences to all your family
