Obituary for Herman Edward Kelley

HERMAN EDWARD KELLEY
1932 - 2015

Born in Harry’s Harbour, Herman was one of six children born to Edward & Elsie Kelley.
At an early age they moved to Silverdale and shortly after he went to work in the lumber woods, using dog team, buck saws and horses, where he quickly earned the reputation of a very hard worker and a great wood cutter. Time passed and he married Verna Upward of Jackson’s Cove and they had five children - Arthur, Sandra, John Dale (deceased), Terry and Jennifer. In the early 60’s he changed careers and headed towards heavy equipment operator especially the bulldozers, which he became very skilled at. Staying with the construction part he moved on to be construction foreman and superintendent. Working on many major jobs including - airport in Labrador, St. Anthony, Hydro Project in Northern Ontario, Upper Salmon NL, The Fix Link in PEI, Bull Arm Fabrication Facility - just to name a few; and many of the highway projects in the province. Herman was well known for his hard work and respect for his fellow workers. He always treated the man working in the ditch as he would treat the man at the highest level behind the desk and for this he was respected.
At the age of 68 he retired from his work away, staying home working at his sawmill, doing his vegetable garden, enjoying life to the fullest. In the winter he would be logging, cutting fire wood, fishing or skidooing.
After Verna’s passing Herman wanted everyone to continue loving life and spending his time with his children, grandchildren and great grand kids.

He leaves to mourn his passing
