Obituary for John James Hibbs

John James Hibbs
John James Hibbs
1955 - 2017

Left this mortal coil at his residence after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, the Right Honourable John James Hibbs, Esquire. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Samuel and Veronica Hibbs, and nephew Scott Flight. Left with fond and loving memories are brothers Samuel Joseph (Judy) of Debert, NS; Vincent (Carole) of Gander, NL; and George (Carol) of Tuktoyaktuk, NT, nieces Tabitha, Sam, Courtney, Maria, and nephews Evan and Will; also a large circle of relatives and friends, including cousin Susan, and best friend, Lindy.
John retired from the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in 2006. He previously worked with his father at Canadian National Telecommunications, after serving as a sniper in Vietnam, and enjoyed a brief political career. John was a Bon Vivant who enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, woodworking, cooking, composing haiku, and exotic dancing. He was an animal lover, and generous to all. John was extremely well-read, and considered an expert in human anatomy, and in his final years, took great pleasure in passing along his knowledge to students. John's claims to fame included burping the alphabet, and producing copious amounts of noxious flatulence.
John enjoyed telling or hearing a good story, especially if it involved a mighty belly laugh. His favorite movie was the classic, "Blazing Saddles", and had memorized the dialogue. With his distinctive white beard expressly grown for the purpose, John dearly loved entertaining children - young and old - as his alter-ego, Father Christmas.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of John's life will take place at a later date, with music, laughing, singing, and dancing.
Finally, John would like to bid farewell to the DBFH, which occupied a large portion of John's adult life. For those inclined to do so, donations may be made to https://www.gofundme.com/colleens-cure in John's memory.
