Condolences

Condolence From: Hedley LeDrew
Condolence: I offer my Condolences to the immediate and extended families for the loss you feel during this sad time. I believe all who had any association with Mr. Rowe during his life will feel his presence and recognize his contributions to and love of family and community. The family he has helped to create has and will continue to make this world a better place as he has done. I am sure you feel very proud and extreme love for him as he certainly did for you. He has created many happy memories and made all people feel comfortable within his presence.

Condolence: Dear Brenda. We have lived steps away from each other and thousands of miles apart, yet still we remain connected in childhood memories and adult experiences. My thoughts are with all of you, during this difficult time of grief and loss. When we were little, Brenda, for me your Dad seemed kind of mysterious, as I didn’t see Mr. Rowe too often, which is as it was back then. Of course, in retrospect, evidence of his presence was in everything we enjoyed! A tent trailer on the driveway, wow, what luck! We could use that! A “small cabin” in the corner of your backyard for our wax paper crayon and leaf projects; sweet! Oh look! Where did these beds come from? How about a sleepover in your mini house, in your backyard? Fun! We had to have been the most creative and resourceful kids on the block! Of course none of those things were luck, or happenstance, but the result of a lovingly constructed home environment, made possible by the selfless collaboration and cooperation of your Mom and Dad. Several decades later and a lifetime away from Birch Street, on the odd occasion when I pick up a bottled root beer from the store, I am taken back to memories of your Dad’s home made brew and that excited feeling of getting to drink one in the back hallway of your Mom’s kitchen. And when we got the “yes, you can play in the trailer” well that was just another score! Now, when I see tent trailers open on other driveways I am reminded of fond memories taking refuge in yours, and I think how nice it was of your Dad to be ok with children playing with his camping gear! I am forever grateful for the blessing of time I got to share here. I will remember your Dad as someone who did all of these things without the need for accolades. I will remember your Dad as a carpenter, because your home always had some change happening, like those neat rooms in the basement with the high beds! So fancy! I will remember him as someone who put his storage shed on hold while it pretended to be a play house! I will remember him as a "no better root beer than his" brewmaster. And as an adult and parent myself now, I will see him as someone without the need for fanfare, or self promotion, but rather one who took quiet and personal satisfaction from a finished product that brought enjoyment to, or served the needs of, the ones he loved. With love and sympathy. Geraldine

Condolence: Ida, Karen and other members of the Rowe family: What can I say that has not already been thought or said about Les. I worked with him for almost all the 40 years I worked in the Accounting Dept at Abitibi and there are very few who could fit the mold that was Les. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met and worked with and one of the best supervisors one could ever have. When Les was around it was like the office was one big happy family and I will always remember how he loved to laugh at a joke or about some funny occurrence, he would laugh until he cried with the tears rolling down his cheeks and we'd all end up laughing at him. If there was any kind of problem at the office, Les would be the one to go to and he always found the solution in a satisfactory manner. Every year when we finished at the mill for Christmas we would go around to certain homes and party for a couple of hours at each place before moving on to the next. Visiting Les' home was a real treat with the moose strips done up in a way that made you yearn for more and a feeling that we were always welcome there. I know the family has many happy family memories of their years together and Les has left a wonderful family that is a credit to himself and Ida. We who worked with him were lucky enough to be a part of an office family that we will never forget because of Les Rowe. Rest in Peace, Les, you will never be forgotten... God Bless...
