Obituary for Noreen Louise McCarthy

Noreen Louise McCarthy
Noreen Louise McCarthy
Oct. 22, 1932 - Oct. 21, 2017

Noreen Louise McCarthy of Grand Falls-Windsor passed away suddenly and peacefully at her
home in Grand Falls-Windsor on October 21, 2017. A lifetime resident of the town, she leaves to
mourn her sister, Dolores “Lol” Becker, twin sister Sheila Power, brother-in-law, Philip Power, as
well as many nieces, nephews and friends who adored her. Noreen was predeceased by her
parents Thomas and Anna McCarthy, and her sisters, Patricia and Moya, and brothers Cecil
(Bud) and William.
Noreen was born in Grand Falls on October 22, 1932, in an apartment above the Grand Falls
Drug Store, which was owned by her father. Against all odds, the little twins survived and grew
up in a loving family on Queen Street. Noreen worked at the local paper mill for over 35 years
and became executive assistant to the mill manager. She was active in her church and the local
seniors’ club. She cared for her mother for many years, and was a light to all who knew her. She
was the “favourite aunt” and “second mother” of many nieces and nephews and will be
remembered by all for her gentle and cheerful nature. She had a devoted circle of family and
friends and lived a happy and peaceful life to the end.
Donations in Noreen’s memory may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, the
Lionel Kelland Hospice, or a charity of one’s choice. A Mass celebrating her life will be held at
the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, October 26,
2017 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be at the Central Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 25 at
7:00-9:00 PM and Thursday, October 26 at 9:30-11:00 AM.
“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of
God's kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.”
