JOHN DENNIS MERCER
1929 - 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Dennis Mercer in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on Monday, December 11, 2017. John was born on December 27, 1929 in Grand Falls, NL to John and Marion (Peyton) Mercer.

John graduated from Grand Falls Academy in 1946 and then went on to Acadia University in Wolfville, NS where he attained his BSc in Chemistry in 1952. During his years at Acadia, John became interested in campus politics and became President of the Student Union in his last year of studies. He was then accepted to complete studies in Applied Chemistry at McGill University.

During his time at McGill he met and married his first wife Marguerite (Marge) Bureau in 1954 and moved to Trois Rivieres, QC.

John worked in the pulp and paper industry, beginning at International Paper in Trois Rivieres and then at Price Brothers in Kenagami (Jonquiere), QC. He then moved to Nackawic, NB where he worked at St. Anne Pulp and Paper as manager, until his retirement in 1985.

John married Joan (Pitcher) in 2008 and moved back to live in Point Of Bay, NL.

John is survived by his wife Joan, sons Brian (Anne) of Elmsdale, NS, Doug (Shirley) of Nackawic, NB, Gary (Shelley) of Saint John, NB, and Mark (Perry Marszowski) of Ottawa, ON, daughters Karen (Paul) Boyd of Lincoln, NB and Brenda Mercer of Fredricton, NB, and sister Helen Hutchcraft of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. John is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Joan's family.

Cremation to follow with a family memorial service to be held in Nackawic, NB in early summer.
