Leslie Lawrence Oake
January 11, 1931 – February 16, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Leslie Oake announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on February 16th, 2018, at the age of 87.
Leslie was born one of 12 children to Thomas & Fannie Oake of Pilley’s Island, NL.
On August 28, 1962 he married the love of his life, Alice (Ball) of Millertown, NL. Together they were blessed with 3 children; Leslie, Dwayne & Dana.
Leslie started working at the A&D Company and later at Abitibi Price as a logger and a cook. Following that he worked for a time on the surface at Buchan’s Mine Co., before returning to Abitibi Price as a cook, where he worked until his retirement.
Leslie loved fishing and hunting. On a moment’s notice he would go Ice Fishing with friends. He was a great story teller and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to build swings and took great pride to ensure they were perfectly updated for when his granddaughters came to visit.
Leslie is predeceased by his wife, Alice (Ball), parents, Thomas & Fannie Oake, siblings Selby, Harvey, Boyce, Gerald, Hilda, Neta, Helen and Baby Oake.
Left with fond & loving memories are his sons, Leslie & Dwayne and daughter, Dana (Todd Weir), grandchildren, Stephanie (Christian), Cynthia, and Cody (Christa).
Also leaving to mourn are his sister, Rita, Georgina & Elsie. Others include a special pet & companion, Lucky and many extended family & friends.
The funeral service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, Pilley’s Island on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
