Why We're Different

Why We're Different

We know there are other funeral homes in the area to choose from. But we also know that families who turn to us during a time of loss, or for pre-arrangement services experience our very high standards of service. These standards include transparency in business practices and service pricing, as well as:
  • Providing families with well-planned funeral arrangements in their time of need.
  • Helping families in our community to preserve longstanding traditions and customs.
  • Offering innovative, truly personalized funeral services and products.
  • Assisting families and individuals making their pre-need plans.
  • Reaching out to the greater community with educational seminars and grief support programs.
  • Providing comfortable, soothing surroundings where families and friends can gather to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one.
In the 1930s and 40s, J. Goodyear & Sons operated a funeral business as a small part of their larger construction company. Grand Falls Funeral Home was incorporated on January 22 1965 to stand on its own. In the late 1960s, a location in Gander was added, thus changing the name to "Central Funeral Homes”. In 1977, Terry Goodyear further separated the funeral home by selling off his interest in J. Goodyear & Sons and keeping the funeral home business. In 1978, a location in Springdale was added. In 2000, Michael & Sheila Goodyear took over the reins and helped move the business into the 21st century. In 2010 they opened the Bishop's Falls location.

Creating a Legacy of Memories

When someone you know and love dies, what are you really left with?

Memories.

Perhaps there are photos, memorabilia, or home movies to document those special moments you shared. Most likely there are just stories about time together, and places you’ve been…and people you both knew.

We know how important it is to secure those stories for the future. Your memories, after all, are a way you hold on to the people you love, who you never want to lose.

That’s why we offer families the Book of Memories™, a uniquely beautiful way to commemorate the life and times of a loved one.

The Book of Memories™ memorial website is a living, growing testament to the beauty of a life lived. As your family and friends share photos, videos, and stories; light commemorative candles or make donations in honour of a loved one, the legacy grows.

And in the early days after a loss, it may be difficult to see beyond the sorrow. But with the Book of Memories™, looking back over the life of your loved one will help comfort you tomorrow…and all the days and years to follow.

If you’d like to create a Book of Memories™ in commemoration of your loved one, contact us. We will be pleased to assist you in this loving gesture.
