Obituary for Carmelita Guillermo

Carmelita Guillermo
1942 - 2022

It is with sadness and surprise that we announce the passing of our beloved Carmelita. Carmelita, affectionately known to many as Auntie Mae, lived a full and blessed life. She is predeceased by her parents Ramon and Angela Guillermo and brother Santiago. She is survived, with loving memories, by sister Margarita (Jesse) DeVilla, sister Maximina Guillermo, brother Hermogenes (Fely) Guillermo, brother Alfonso (Marnie) Guillermo and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.

Carmelita was born September 9, 1942 in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Phililppines. She studied Business Administration at the University of the East, Manila, Philippines. She immigrated to Newfoundland in October 1968 and shortly after began her career at the paper mill, making many acquaintances and lifelong friendships, spreading her special kind of love.

During her working years and during her retirement, Auntie Mae spent her time doing all the things she loved the most; spending time with friends, travelling the world and taking road trips around Newfoundland, keeping in touch with family spread across the globe, line dancing, singing, the 50+ Club and her commitment to her physical well-being at the YMCA. She will be remembered most of all for her unwavering dedication to the Church. Her roles served there were numerous but she especially enjoyed the choir, the hand bells, the CWL and being an Eucharistic Minister. Her reach was far and wide and her loss will be felt throughout the family and her community.

Carmelita’s wish was to be laid to rest with her parents. Therefore, her burial will take place at a later date in Scarborough, Ontario.

She lived her life serving at the feet of Jesus.
