Obituary for Agnes Josephine Kenney

Kenney, Agnes Josephine

Passed away peacefully at 92 years at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Agnes was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Mary, her sister Dorothy, her brothers, Bill, Brendan and Don, brother-in-law Marc Lafrance, and her niece Sandra. Left to mourn are sisters Beatrice Fillier (Rod), Mary Kenney-Lafrance, and Imelda Taylor (Brian) and brother, Ray Kenney (Elizabeth), sisters-in law Joan Bessey, Margaret Kenney, and Frances Kenney, as well as a large number of nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, cousins and friends.

Agnes was a tireless worker who valued spirituality, family, and good works. She grew up in Conche and was a member of the Presentation Order for 25 years. She was an English teacher for 39 years and completed a master’s degree in education in Maine. After her retirement she volunteered in palliative care at St. Clare’s Hospital for 30 years. Agnes was extremely involved in her parish church in various ministries and served as President of the Catholic Women’s League at the provincial and national level.

Agnes enjoyed exercise and kept healthy by swimming, walking and always “keeping on the move.” Over the years she cared for many children in the family and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She loved a phone call or a coffee date with her friends. She enjoyed good conversation and travelling, and had a particular affinity for cruises, perhaps because she always loved the water and boats of any shape and size.

The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff at the Carmelite House for their care and compassion towards Agnes. They were very welcoming and supportive and did everything possible to ensure her comfort and happiness. Also, many warm thanks to the staff at Central Funeral Home, for their professionalism and support.
