Obituary for Allan George Edwards
ALLAN GEORGE EDWARDS
1939 - 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Allan George Edwards announce his passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on April 15, 2019, at the age of 80. Al retired from St. Michael’s High School. He is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Mary (Murphy) Edwards, brothers, Charlie Edwards, George Edwards, Gus Edwards, and Jerry Edwards, twin brother, Frank Edwards, sisters, Agnes Browne and May Chinn, and sisters-in-law, Bernice Edwards and Mary Edwards. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Maxine (Trask) Edwards, son, Bob Edwards (Patricia Butler) of Corner Brook, NL, and daughter, Carla Edwards (Tim Louks) of Waterdown, ON. Also leaving to mourn are his brothers, Reg Edwards, Adrian (Ed) Edwards (Josephine), Rex Edwards (Patricia), John Edwards (Mary), and Wally Edwards (Gladys), sister, Carolyn Arnold (Ned), grandchildren, Caleigh, Joshua, and Keri Edwards, and Alex and Zack Louks, special friends, Stan and Liz Cole, John and Iris Byrne, Jean Buffett, Gwen Marshall, Albert and Cis O’Reilly, Dorothy Trask, and Gerald and Shirley Foley.
A constant source of optimism and positivity, Al genuinely cared about every student in his classroom and every athlete he coached. The amount of time that he dedicated to sport, teaching, coaching, and helping others is impossible to quantify. His art captured breathtaking scenes that were meaningful for him and allow us to continue to see these scenes through his eyes. Love for sport coursed within him during his life, as he introduced his kids to the foundations and elements of sport at the St. Michael’s gymnasium, Centennial field, and Badger Lake. His enthusiasm and tenacity was ever-present during his competitive years of hockey with the Grand Falls Andcos and Cataracts. His love for competition never ceased, as he was always the hardest working player in the ball hockey game even when he was quite literally held together by tape and stitches! Al will be remembered as a genuinely caring soul who always had a kind smile and found something good to say about everyone. He leaves a grand legacy in his students, athletes, family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Sam Ralph, the staff of the Palliative Care unit of the Carmelite House, and the nursing staff at the Grand Falls-Windsor Cancer Clinic and Unit 3A for their care and compassion shown to Al.
Father Joseph Uy will conduct the funeral service at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.
