Obituary for Anita Kelly

Passed peacefully away at The Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s on May 1, 2023, Anita Kelly, formerly of Bishops Falls and Grand Falls-Windsor.

Anita is predeceased by her parents, Jack and Mary, and by her siblings: Peg, Ned, Patrick, and Felix. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Jackie, Catherine, and her nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends including special friends from Torbay and St. John’s (Tapper, Rose D., Mary Ellen, Rose K., Noelle, and Sister Elizabeth).

A loving family member, a loyal friend, a trustworthy employee, a gifted athlete, an amazing cook, and a woman of deep joy, Anita Kelly left this life after a short illness and far too soon. She was a faithful daughter, sister, and aunt who was loyal and dedicated to her family whom she loved without reservation. Having grown up in Bishops Falls, she spent more than forty years in Grand Falls-Windsor where she worked closely and most competently as a businesswoman with Boyd Cohen. She excelled in many sports, including broomball, softball, curling, and golf – not only did she play these sports with vigor and a competitive spirit, but she participated in them in ways which led to lifelong friendships. She excelled as well in cooking; she loved to entertain, and you hoped to be among those who were entertained by her.

Kindness, loyalty, and compassion marked all Anita’s friendships; she did not hesitate to sacrifice her own time or energy if it meant that she could help a friend in need. She was a woman who showed her love for life with twinkling eyes, an infectious laugh, and a rich sense of humour. She was a woman of deep faith who was faithful to her God and often raised her lovely voice in songs of praise. By her presence, Anita made life brighter, more hopeful, more peaceful, and more joyful for all who were blessed to share her life’s journey. May she rest now in God’s peace and love for all eternity.
