Obituary for Audrey Mary Antle (Simms)

Audrey Mary Antle, cherished wife, devoted sister, beloved mother, adored grandmother and revered great grandmother passed away peacefully on October 24, 2023 at the age of 93. She was surrounded by her loving family at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls - Windsor. Audrey’s unwavering love for her family, her exceptional baking skills, her talent with needlework and her dedicated nursing career define the remarkable woman she was.

Born on September 7, 1930 in Pushthrough Newfoundland, Audrey grew up in a close knit family that instilled in her the importance of love, compassion, and creativity. Audrey’s family was the center of her world and time spent with them brought her immense joy and fulfillment. The Antle home on 21 Birch Street was always a welcoming haven for family and friends and radiated warmth and happiness.

Audrey met and married Leslie Antle while she was working in Botwood, NL as a Registered Nurse. They built a life together in Grand Falls - Windsor where they raised their three boys who were their pride and joy, despite those hectic childhood days!

Audrey could often be found baking for her family, usually her famously remembered shortbread cookies, with cherries on top. Family dinners took place quite frequently at her home while sitting around the dining room table together, sharing laughs and making lifelong memories. Audrey was also a talented crossstitcher and made many pieces that her family will forever cherish. They hang in the homes of her children and grandchildren, creations that are a reflection of her own vibrant spirit and will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Audrey attended The General Hospital School of Nursing in St. Johns, NL, graduating in 1952. She was a passionate and nurturing caregiver who touched the lives of countless patients. As a nursing supervisor, she has left a lasting impact on those she mentored over her decades-long career.

Audrey was a woman of remarkable character, with a clear definition of what was right and wrong, something she had no trouble making clear. Her love, talent and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Leslie Antle; her sister, Doris Freake and her parents Maud and William Simms.

Left to mourn are her children David (Karen), Keith (Maria), Scott (Danielle); grandchildren Samantha (Darrell), Alexandra (Tyler), Michael (Jessica), Matthew (Raeleigh), Mary and Ella and three great grandchildren, Anna, Layla and Rory.
