Condolence: To Betty's family, So sorry to hear about your mom and even more sorry that I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to her. I was out of town on the day of her service but I have thought about her so often in the past while. She was a really sweet lady who was loved by all who knew her. She will always be remembered as one of the sweetest teachers ever. Keep her memory in your hearts and she will be with you always. May she rest in peace. Teresa

Condolence From: Deanne Foley Hawco
Condolence: Dear John, Neil,Joanne and Patti, I was saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. I have many found memories of her. I attribute her as one of the influential teachers to instill my love of reading. In most recent years while she volunteered at the hospital gift shop on Friday evenings, every second Friday when I worked I would always pay a visit for a chat about our favourite things our family, travel and books. She even put me on to a few good thrillers ( a genre I tend to shy away from). Myself and Barry also loved her love of all things Irish. We shared a scuff and a shally with your mom at the Ryan’s annual Paddy’s day parties. Her impish grin and raspy infectious laugh will be remembered fondly Deanne and Barry

Condolence: Thinking of all of you as you remember and honour your mom over these few days-I know the gatherings of people who loved her will buoy you as you share happy memories through the sadness. I cherish our summer visits over the last 5 years-Aunt Betty was funny, wise and humble. We had great day trips and enjoyed meals and chats. I will be watching 'Vera' tomorrow morning in her honour-and appreciating the blessing of having had her in my life.

Condolence From: Bernadette (Murphy) Higgins
Condolence: I was so very saddened to hear of Mrs. McHugh's passing. She was one of my favorite teachers in high school and I have been lucky enough throughout the years,to still be able to see her and have a chat. During our chats, I would always call her Mrs. McHugh, and countless times she would give me a stern look and say, "Bernadette! It's Betty. Call me Betty." but I told her I couldn't, it just didn't seem right. I have a picture on my phone that I had taken of (some) of our regular morning "coffee crowd" on August 23rd and sadly, that was the last time that I had seen her. I thought of her often and just last week had sent a card to wish her well. I hope she knew how respected she was by myself, and by many others. She is already missed. May God bless you all in the days to come. Bernadette

Condolence From: Frank Hiscock
Condolence: To all the McHugh family. Please accept my deepest sympathy on your Mom's passing. She was a very dynamic intelligent and fun loving (to say the least),woman, and I really enjoyed hearing from her last year, and of course seeing her when I came to see your Dad years ago. They sent me a wonderful Xmas Card a number of years ago, from the GF Heritage Collection, a few years before your Dad died, of GF in the 40ties ,which I treasure, and always have on my desk. My Dad took your parents' official wedding photographs after Eric had asked him, because your Dad played in the B Coy Royal NL Regiment Garrison Band, which my Dad directed, and I played in as well. That's how I got to know Eric, and then your Mom in the early 1960ies. I remember sending your Mother the tape of your Dad's solo of by Chopin, lo those many years ago,on a B Coy band concert recording by CBC, and I know your Mother treasured it and played at his wake. Eric played very well on it I might add and I always loved it. Honestly, every time I hear that piece now, I think of them both. Last year I heard a great version of it on youtube ,so sent it along again for old time's sake and your Mother graciously thank ed me again, and we had a nice chat and a reminiscence about it all. I always liked your Mom's candid way because she always spoke honestly and with great feeling. If I lived in GF I would attend her funeral, but alas I don't, so I respectfully send my sincere condolences. Your parents were good salt of the earth people who loved you all dearly and did their best for you. I was touched by your family pictures and the love you all had for each other ,which shines through so beautifully! I was proud to know them both. May God Bless you all in your hour of sorrow and May God Love your dear Mother, as much as you did! Sincerely, Frank.

Condolence From: Kelly Bragg
Condolence: John, Neil, Joanne and Patti, condolences on the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful lady and we will remember her fondly. Doug often talks about the younger years and the shenanigans that went all at your house (shed). Many a story has been shared over our years together. He always spoke lovingly about your Mom and Dad. We loved to see your mom drive into our place with your dad grinning in the passenger seat. She'd honk the horn until one of us would come out to chat! One time we even got them out of the car and onto our patio for a big bbq scoff and a cold drink. It was a glorious day and a memory we can both hold in our hearts. God bless you and your families as you send your beautiful mother into the arms of your dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you today and in the upcoming days as you say adieu. Have peace knowing she raised you all to be fine human beings who are kind, fun, and gifted in many ways. The Braggs, Doug, Kelly, Jenna and Jordan xo

Condolence From: Alfred and Mary Hiscock
Condolence: Dear John,Neil,Joanne and Patti, We were very saddened to learn the news of your Mom's passing.Coping with the loss of your beautiful Mom will no doubt be one of the hardest challenges you are all now confronted with.Grieving is certainly an important process to help overcome the sad feelings but it will be helpful for all of you to embrace the quality time that you all shared with your Mom as she was trying to process her recent health report.Several days ago Shirley Wall and myself had a lovely visit with your Mom.She was her usual upbeat self. She was waiting for the arrival of Joanne from Gander.Among other things she shared with us her wonderful European vacation and just loved the cruise on the Rhine River.Your Mom spoke very highly of each and everyone of you ,saying how blest she was to have such caring children. This was accompanied with a little tear in her eye.She showed us a picture of Charles who is without doubt her pride and joy.I will leave a picture with the three of us taken on that day.Between the three of us we figured out how to take a selfie.Shirley and I will always treasure this picture. My husband Alf also sends his condolences to you all. Just remember: "When you lose someone you love, you gain an angel 😇 you know "and "when someone you love becomes a memory ,the memory becomes a treasure." Author unknown for the two sentences of wisdom. Take care of yourselves, Much love ❤️ ❤️And affection, Alf and Mary Hiscock.
