Obituary for Blanche Clementine Burton

Blanche Clementine Burton
May 23, 1938 – February 7, 2023

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Blanche Burton of Springdale announces her passing. Blanche passed away peacefully at the Springdale Retirement Living Centre in Springdale on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 84.

Blanche was born on May 23, 1938 in Port Anson, NL. On March 11, 1955 Blanche married Timothy Burton and together they raised a family of four children – Shirley, Loretta, Otto, and Karen.

She was predeceased by her biological mother, Marjorie Fudge, her adoptive parents, John and Florence Burton, and sister, Donna Oxford. Left to mourn are her husband of 67 years, Timothy Burton, children Shirley (George) Noseworthy, Loretta (William) Biswas, Otto (Ariela) Burton, and Karen (Jeff) Clarke. Also, grandchildren Jamie, Michael, Andrew, and Jacob. And, great grandchildren, Chelsea, Caitlyn, Nixon, Callie, Lincoln, and Jayden. Also left to mourn are her brothers and sisters, and a large circle of extended family and friends.

She actively participated in her local church for many years and in a variety of capacities. For her, faith was meant to inform and shape her life at home and in her daily interactions with others.

Her faith was often expressed through a song. Whether she was engaged in a house keeping activity, outside for a walk around town, or relaxing at home in her chair as she worked on a crossword puzzle, she would often be heard singing a wide variety of hymns and other songs. She would sometimes sing a tune that others didn’t even recognize, which pointed to her good memory and love of music.

Blanche cherished having her family and friends around whenever possible and always sought to express her love for them in both her words and actions. She never ended a conversation without saying, “Love you.”

She always enjoyed sitting around a table with family and friends for a good meal, telling and listening to stories, playing Uno and Skipbo, and sharing in a good laugh. She had an amazing sense of humour that only got better with time. Blanche always enjoyed having fun, even if it was at her own expense.

Her faith in Jesus, deep love of family and friends, and an uncanny ability to laugh, were the three things that characterized her life. And, we can only hope to allow these three things to shape our lives as well as we seek to honour her memory moving forward.

Blanche, you loved deeply and widely. And, were loved deeply and widely in return. You will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. May your legacy of faith, love, and joy live on in those who knew and loved you best. See you soon.

Special thank you to the staff at Springdale Retirement Living Centre for their outstanding care, compassion, and love that was demonstrated daily for Blanche, but also, the entire family. Words will never fully express the appreciation we have for you all.
