Clare Estelle Murphy (nee Maloney)
September 3, 1931- May 4, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Clare Murphy announces that she passed peacefully away surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, May 4th 2022. Born in Grand Falls, NL on September 3,1931. Clare was the daughter of Patrick Maloney and Clara O’Neill of Holyrood. Clare was full of fun, she loved life and lived it to the fullest. In her youth she was an avid golfer and ice - skater and enjoyed playing hockey on the Bullets Girl’s Hockey team. She completed a Medical Arts Course and worked at Lady Northcliffe Hospital. After marrying the love of her life, Donald Murphy, she became a full time wife and mother to their five children. Clare was also a woman of strong faith and lived the virtues of generosity and compassion. She volunteered with the CWL and for many years, was the District Secretary for the Girl Guides of Canada. She loved music and entertaining and frequently hosted parties for family and friends during the summers on Badger Lake. Her favourite event was her annual St Patrick’s Day party where she could be found leading a parade of green-clad women singing Irish songs. Clare loved travelling and enjoyed early spring spent in Florida. However, her love of Grand Falls meant that she was never away for long. She had a passion for playing Bridge and was always encouraging others to learn to play. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother and found tremendous pleasure in her two great-grandsons.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald Murphy; her brother Jerome Maloney (Texas); and her daughter-in-law Sandra Murphy (Sean) GFW.
