Obituary for Edward Decker

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edward J. Decker announce his passing at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander on November 24, 2023 at the age of 96 years.
Edward moved to Stephenville from Fogo Island, where he retired from St. Stephen’s High School in 1992. After retirement, he moved to Grand Falls where he resided with his wife Anastasia until her passing in 2002. He then moved to Gander where he spent the remainder of his life.
Edward was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus 2053 Notre Dame Council.
Edward is predeceased by his wife Anastasia, mother Margaret, father Llewellyn, sons Michael and Brian, son-in-law Kenneth Folkes, and sister Julia.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sons Len (Judy) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Ed Jr. (Glenda) of Stephenville, Wayne (Anne) of Summerford, and Sean of Joe Batt’s Arm, Fogo Island; daughters Mary (John O’Reilly) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Genevieve (Oswald Eveleigh) of Grand Falls-Windsor, and Jacinta (Kevin Hopkins) of Gander. Also leaving to mourn are his grandchildren Jennifer, Jackie, Tim, Craig, Brenda, Dan, Nick, Kayla, Jeff, Jillian, Jordan, Shane, & Hayley; and 16 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Edward’s family was the light of his life. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and they loved him just as much. He had a quick sense of humor and was eager to share a laugh and a joke. He was loved by everyone he met, and he will be truly missed by those who had the privilege to know him.
Father Moses Nwokocha will conduct the funeral mass from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Grand Falls-Windsor on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Interfaith Cemetery. Pallbearers are Len Decker, Wayne Decker, Sean Decker, Jordan Decker, Shane Hopkins, Kevin Hopkins, John O'Reilly, and Tim O’Reilly. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ashley Brace of Central Funeral Homes.
