Obituary for Elizabeth Juanita Banfield (Wellman)

It is with a joyful yet sad heart that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Juanita Banfield on Monday, April 23, 2024. Elizabeth (aka Betty or Bessie) as she was known to friends and family, had her 100th birthday this past July 14, 2023, to celebrate her life and involvement in the Church and community.
Born at Port Anson, Elizabeth’s family moved to Springdale where she attended school and graduated in 1939. Later she attended the Old Memorial University College and completed the Teacher Training Section program. Elizabeth taught for a few years after leaving college, not long after married Frazer Banfield. In 1954 they moved to Grand Falls with their two children Lorna and Sam, once in Grand Falls Frazer and Elizabeth would welcome two new additions to their family, Peter and Robert Banfield.

Predeceased by her husband Frazer, daughter Lorna (Dave), son Robert, and granddaughter Kelley.

Left to mourn are her sons, Sam (Eileen) and Peter (Juanita) as well as grandchildren, Kathy (Cordell), Scott (Karen), Susan, Heather (Sean), Paul, Jill (Hugo) and Joshua, as well as great-grandchildren, Rachel, Edward, Elizabeth, Olivia, Damian, Cedric, Corryn, David, Julia and Brenden. With such a large extended family, Elizabeth will be missed by many. Elizabeth’s friend Kylo held a special place in her heart, Elizabeth has left us all with so many cherished memories.

Grand Falls was the final stop for Elizabeth, it was here that she committed herself to her family, Church and Community. Her involvement will not be detailed as per her request, that was left to us, and I quote: “No reference to career, achievements, involvement in activities, church and community. Leave that to people who make a tribute.”

She will be missed. Thanks to the health care community for their kind assistance during the past number of months.

A Celebration of Life Service at Grand Falls Citadel with Majors Fred and Louise Pond officiating.
Service will be livestreamed through Central Funeral Homes.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.
