Obituary for Elsie Mildred Jane Marshall (MacLean)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Elsie Mildred Jane Marshall (Nee MacLean) announces her passing at her home in Springdale, NL on January 25, 2022 at the age of 99.

She is predeceased by her husband George H. Marshall, parents Garland and Pearl MacLean, brothers Jackson, George and Roy MacLean; Son-in-law Carl Milley, Sister-in-law Josie MacLean and Brother-in-law Malcolm Clarke.

Left with fond and loving memories is daughter, Queen Milley and son Garland Marshall both of Springdale. Also leaving to mourn Sister, Dorothy Clarke of Springdale; Grandchildren: Kimberly Janes (Kevin) of King’s Point, Cindy Milley (Brent Payne) of Torbay and Jerry Marshall of Cambridge, ON. Great-grandchildren; Daniel Janes (Felisha Snow) of Springdale, Holly Janes (Don Shiner) of King’s Point and Gavin Marshall of London, ON; Great-Great grandchildren Desirae Austin-Janes and Brooklynn Heath and Cody Charlie. Special friends Shirley & Ray Hipson as well as many extended relatives and friends.

Elsie was born to Pearl (Granny) and Garland (Faud) Maclean in Wild Bight (Beachside), NL; she grew up in Springdale where she met and married George Marshall and raised two children Queen and Garl, and later her grandson Jerry.

Born before electricity was available in her little corner of the world, Elsie saw many changes in her lifetime. Her world went from using wood stoves to electric ranges, horse and carriage to motor vehicles, outhouse to indoor washrooms and typewriters to laptops. She sent her first email when she was in her 90’s.

Elsie loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, gardening, berry picking and moose hunting. She also loved her birds and squirrels that she made sure were fed on a regular basis; but most of all she loved her family, and they look forward to a time when they can share a laugh with her again, as she loved to do with them.

Major Joshua Randell will conduct the funeral service at the Salvation Army Citadel on January 29, 2022. Interment will be at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Springdale. Pallbearers are Jerry Marshall, Holly Janes, Felisha Snow, Kevin Janes, Brent Payne and Don Shiner.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Michele Janes of Central Funeral Homes.
