Obituary for Emma Bugden (Forsey)
EMMA BUGDEN
1928 - 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emma (Forsey) Bugden, age 91, on May 17, 2020, at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor. Emma was born to Thomas and Irene Forsey at Grand Bank on August 19, 1928. After graduating high school, Emma attended Mun to pursue a career in teaching. She came to Grand Falls in 1950 to teach at Grand Falls Academy “lower school”. She left to teach in Glovertown for a year in 1952 but returned to make her life in Grand Falls.
She married George Bugden on July 20, 1956. They had one son, Craig, who was center of her life. Emma taught at GFA for over 30 years and loved every minute of it. In later years, she continued her studies and received her Bachelor Degree in Education. She had great empathy for those students who struggled the most and made a lasting impact on so many young people.
Emma was a lady in the truest sense of the word. She always looked for the good in people and never spoke a harsh word about anyone. Her door was always open and every visitor was welcomed with open arms. Her cherry cakes were cherished by anyone lucky enough to receive one. She passed on this recipe and her baking skill to her granddaughter Melanie.
She was an avid church goer, a long-standing member of the United Church Women, and took an active role in church activities. She enjoyed her years with the Masonic Ladies group. She loved to travel and treasured the memories of all her trips with family and friends. Although she had a small family, Emma had a great group of close friends who would meet on a weekly basis for a yarn & a cup of tea.
Above all, Emma loved her family and cherished every moment she spent with them. She loved taking pictures and documented albums for her grandchildren.
She had a great sense of humor and we enjoyed her many sayings. If we made fun of her in any way, her retort was “kiss me foot.” She was famous for saying “you’re so smart, I don’t know how your head holds your brain.”
Emma was predeceased by husband George Bugden, parents Thomas & Irene Forsey and brother Charles Forsey. She leaves to mourn one son, Craig (Cindy), granddaughter Melanie (Frank) Squires, grandson Chad Bugden (Sarah Hennessey), great-granddaughters Mikayla and Mackenzie Squires, sister Mary Billard, and a wide circle of relatives and friends. Special thanks to Edna Barker who provided loving care over the past few years. Also many thanks to the staff of CNRHC and Carmelite House for all they have done over the past couple of years.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funeral service will take place at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations may be made in Emma's memory to the Lionel Kelland Hospice.
Emma lived a full and meaningful life. As Chad once said to her in jest “Nan--you had a good run of it.” To which she replied, “oh, kiss me foot!”
