Obituary for Enid Bradbury (Coombs)

Passed peacefully away at the Hugh Twomey Complex after a lengthy battle with dementia, Enid Bradbury (nee Coombs), aged 75. Predeceased by her husband, Al (2010), parents Josiah and Annie (Mercer) Coombs, and brothers Donnie (1992) and Alex (2019).

Born on Bell Island, Enid was an avid reader and a tutor to her siblings and friends. She graduated from Memorial University with a teaching certificate and moved to Grand Falls-Windsor in 1965 to begin her (brief) teaching career. It was there she met Al, and together they started their family. She became a stay-at-home Mom, and their house on Riverview Road was consistently filled with home-cooked meals and fresh baked goods for Geoff, Karen, and their friends.

Once Geoff and Karen became older, she returned to work as a Tax Preparer with H&R Block, where her coworkers were treated to her famous Maids of Honour and Brownies throughout the tax season. In later years, her passion became her grandchildren. She and Melissa were inseparable with their weekly lunch dates, shopping trips, and Saturday night sleepovers. When Christopher came along, Nanny’s man was treated to endless sleepovers and outdoor adventures.

A friend to all and with a flair for entertaining, Enid was happiest when surrounded by friends, family (and even strangers), particularly during her and Al’s infamous Salmon Festival gatherings.

Left with fond and loving memories are her son, Geoff, and daughter Karen (Andrew); grandchildren Melissa (Jon) and Christopher; brothers Joey (Bobbie) and Lorne (Ellen); sister, Betty (Frank); and sister-in-law, Dulcie Coombs (widow of Alex). She also leaves to mourn many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a large circle of family and friends, including her “lunch bunch.”

A special thank-you to the staff of North Haven Manor and the Hugh Twomey Complex for the care provided to Enid throughout the past five years.

Flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations in her memory can be made to the Lionel Kelland Hospice. Visitation will occur at Central Funeral Home on Monday, April 25, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Pallbearers are Christopher Bradbury, Jon Stone, Joey Coombs, Clayton Forsey, Ray Norman, and Dave Carrigan.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Central Funeral Homes.

“Dance with me, and we’ll guide along, just like we used to do. With music and friends, we’ll go ‘round again; I love keeping time with you.”
