OBITUARY FOR ERNEST SIMMS
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ernest Simms announce his passing at the Green Bay Health Care Hospital in Springdale on November 15th, 2023, at the age of 80. Ernest was a long-time member of the Pilley’s Island Heritage Society and participated in many cultural events and sat on numerous community boards and councils throughout the years.
Ernest was predeceased by his parents (Bronsell and Ethel Simms), parents-in-law (Ephriam and Thelma Knee), sister (Pauline Simms), sisters-in-law (Barbara Stone, Gloria Knee and Dot Noseworthy), and niece and nephews-in-law (Faye and Gary Brazil and Rick Winsor).
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Ernest’s wife of 54 years, Eliza Ruth Ann Simms, and sons Jason (Nicole) Simms of Gardner Creek NB, and Philip (Laura) Simms of Pilley’s Island NL.
Also leaving to mourn are granddaughters McKenna Simms (Harley Elliot), Madelaine Breau (Dhia Hachmi) and Nathalie Breau; sisters Elsie (Rex) Short, Bride (Pearce) Osmond, and Gladys (Ambrose) Short; brothers Con Simms and Chesley (Viola) Simms; brothers-in-law Edward Stone, Brian Knee, and Robert (Karen) Knee; and sister-in-law Jocelyn (Fred) Perrier; as well as nine nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews, and eight great-great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pilley’s Island United Church on November 18th, 2023, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, where family and close friends are invited to share warm memories about Ernest and the lasting impact he made to so many people throughout his eight decades of life lived.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in Ernest’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
