Obituary for Father Wayne Cummings

FATHER ANTHONY WAYNE CUMMINGS
1950 – 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Father Wayne Cummings announce his passing at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander, NL on April 14, 2021 at the age of 70. Father Cummings is predeceased by his parents, Daniel J. and Bridget E. Cummings; brother, Daniel A. and special cousin Sylvia Hurley. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Bishop A. Daniels and fellow priests. Also leaving to mourn are his brothers, Gary (Florence) and Brian (Beverley), sister-in-law Madonna; nephews, Cory and Adam; and nieces, Leanne (James) Lewis, Kayla, and Mallory; grand-nephews, Sam Lewis and Ian Lewis.

Father Wayne was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood on May 16, 1975 at All Hallows’ Church in North River. During the almost half century of priestly ministry, Father Wayne served the Grand Falls Diocese in the parishes and missions connected with Harbour Grace, Tilting, Buchans, Whitbourne, Bay de Verde, Holyrood, Harbour Main, Clarenville and St. Joseph’s in Grand Falls-Windsor. Father Wayne also served the diocesan family in such ministries as Vocation Director, Office of Liturgy, the Presyterium and Council of Pastoral Leaders. The later years of Father Wayne’s earthly life were spent mostly in prayer ministry because of severe limitations imposed by the effects of a medical condition.
May his soul Rest In Peace.
