Fred was born in King’s Point NL, on September 22nd 1949 to Cecil and Drucella Janes.

At the age of 15 his uncle Oswald Newbury taught him how to log, and he continued his career with logging with the Burt Brothers.

At the age of 20 he married the love of his life, Alice Saunders, in 1969 and together raised their four children Brodean, Richard, Danny and Ruth.

As a young man Fred played in the Salvation Army band throughout his years.

In 1991 Fred and Alice moved away from Newfoundland seeking work, he got a job in Thompson MB in doing maintenance. He loved to work and loved his job as a maintenance man at the Harmony House and Addictions Foundation in Thompson MB. Fred was forced into retirement after becoming ill in 2012. Fred was known for his caring nature and unconditional love for everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing, logging, camping, hunting, and anything to do with the great outdoors. Family was one of his greatest joys, nothing made him smile more then his grandkids walking through the door. The family is forever grateful for the countless precious memories of Fred. Fred knew that when his time came, he wanted to be home in Newfoundland, so he returned in 2020. Throughout his last days with us, he had conversations with his wife about all the things they got to do and reminisced about the beautiful life they had together.

He spoke to all his children which had given them the opportunity to tell him just how much he meant to all.

Fred’s family would like to thank those who have offered prayers, condolences, and support during this sad time.
