Obituary for Frederick Victor Robert Randell

The Family of Frederick Victor Robert Randell respectfully announce his peaceful passing at home, August 5, 2023 at the age of 82.
Fred passed with Mrs. Randell, as always, by his side, holding his hand, and his beloved children close and in his heart.
Fred was born to George and Alice (Seaward) Randell in Corner Brook, NL December 17th, 1940.
His formative years were influenced greatly by the passing of his Mother, when he was 3.
He was forever grateful for the love, care, and protection of his family.
Fred had to speak his mind from an early age.
When a disagreeable nanny moved in, Fred told his Dad, “she moves out or I move out, you choose”.
Speaking his mind became a personality trait, you never had to wonder “what Fred was thinking”
Corner Brook was a great place for a mischievous youth, many fond memories were made, and stories created.
He passed his driving test the first time with only one mistake, “you went the wrong way, on a one way street three times”
Many stories remain in memory.
Fred loved hockey from an early age, in fact, he was told “hockey or school, you can’t do both”.
By the end of 1966 Fred had won 3 Herder Championships with his beloved Corner Brook Royals.
In 1967 Fred accepted a job as night manager of the Simwesco hotel, aka the Mount Peyton, he was off to Grand Falls-Windsor to pursue the future.
It was here, on the side of the highway, he meet the blessing of his life, Cora Shirley Francis, Mrs. Randell.
They married later in 1967, the last year the Leafs won the cup, 56 years of marriage.
It is said “opposites attract”, well, Fred would be the first to tell you, he put that attraction through trial and tribulation.
Fred was a positive contributing member of the Grand Falls-Windsor community.
He dedicated years of service to the Minor Hockey program, and to the United Church as Superintendent of Sunday school.
Fred was an honest, respected, innovative business leader. He employed many for their first time.
He brought the first automatic car wash to town at the bottom of Union St. at Randell’s Golden Eagle.
He sold gas at a discount at Randell’s Esso Monchy Rd.
The Irving family, in town for an Irving hockey tournament, threatened to drop their prices so low on High St that they’d “run him out of business”
Fred, with his respected friends at Irving Oil Central NL, negotiated a fair and honest buy out from Irving Oil, he closed the doors.
Fred’s proudest and greatest accomplishment in life was his family, he loved them fiercely.
Mrs. Randell, from the soul of my heart, with my enduring love, thank you for fulfilling my life.
We laughed, we loved, felt pain, felt sorrow, it was a life well lived.
It continues to live in Freddy and Jessica, Peter and Lisa, and in Diana, Rod, Ashton, Ava, and Kole.
We leave the world children of integrity.
They are kind, caring, thoughtful, warm hearted people.
With that, I rest in peace.
Cremation has taken place, details of remembrance to follow.

The family would like to thank Mr Randell’s care team for their patience, and help.
No flowers by request, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in his name, or the local SPCA or Parkinson’s Society.

The family extends an open invitation to all, Friday, August 11th, 2pm till close.
