Obituary for Gerald Michael Burke

GERALD MICHAEL BURKE
1926 - 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerald Michael Burke announce his passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, on Monday, April 8, 2019, at the age of 92. He proudly joined the Knights of Columbus at the age of 16 and held various positions, including Grand Knight. Gerald married the love of his life, Ann, in 1954, and together they had 10 children. He was a long-standing member of the Cathedral Parish and one of the first Eucharistic ministers, and also served on the Parish Council. Gerald retired from Abitibi-Price in 1990, and shortly after, discovered the joys of golfing in his retirement. You could see him and John Mackey teeing off in the early morning hours.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Gertrude, his daughter, Cynthia, his grand-daughter, Angela, his brothers, Bill, Jack, Cyril, Tom, Ted, and Cecil, and his sister, Frances.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his loving wife of 65 years, Ann, children, Trudi Burke, Chris Burke (Elaine Holden), Pauline Gallagher (Ken), Sharon King (Wayne), Sandra Evans (Dave), John Burke (Ruth), Gerry Burke (Arlene), Lori Seddon (Ronnie), and Jenn Carter (Chris), grandchildren, Michael (Olivia), Stephen (Erica) and Dawn Gallagher, Stephen (Bethany) and Matthew (Julia) King, Heather (Matt), Christina and Andrew Burke, Ryan Burke, Emilie Burke (Tyler), Sarah and Rebecca Evans, and Joshua and Abigail Seddon. He also leaves his great grandchildren, Emma Rae and Joseph Burke (JB) King, Megan, Luke, Brooklyn, and Nathanael Gallagher.

Also leaving to mourn are his brothers, Bob (Pat) and Mike (Joyce), and sisters-in-law, Tina Traylor and Dolly Stein (Don). He will be forever remembered by a large circle of friends and many who loved him. We want to thank the many people who joined Dad at the Carmelite for a game of Bridge as we know this brought him immense joy. A special thank you to Rebecca’s boyfriend, Brandon Burt for the many visits and your love and support.

A very special thank you to the staff at the Carmelite House who lovingly cared for our father in his final years. The compassion, love, and respect you showed him has forever left an impression on our hearts and we will be forever grateful.

Donations can be made in his memory to the Lionel Kelland Hospice or the Food Bank, and flowers would be lovingly accepted.
