Obituary for Greta Hilda Regina Burt (Crewe)

With her family by her side, Greta Hilda Regina Burt (Crewe) passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on May 28th, 2022 at the Green Bay Health Centre at the age of 78.

Greta is predeceased by her parents Samuel and Myrtle Crewe; parents-in-law Augustus and Irene Burt; brother Terry Crewe and sister-in-law Cora Milley.

Left with fond and loving memories are her husband of 61 years, Wallace Burt; children Nola (Hardy) Matthews, Tina (Ira) Bowers and Leon (Dana) Burt, of King’s Point, NL; grandchildren Chantelle Bowers (Adam) of Middle Arm, NL, Adam Matthews (Monique) of Yellowknife, NWT, Tyler Bowers of King’s Point, NL, Hillary (Tejay) England of Baie Verte, NL and Julia (Jake) Payne of King’s Point, NL; great-grandchild and the joy of her life, Jorja England. sister Verna (Lewis) Stride; brother-in-law Dudley (Phillis) Burt, sister-in-law Elsie Crewe; Aunts Elaine Bartlett and Vicky Lear; her long time best friend Rosalie Toms, and a great amount of extended family and friends.

Greta was born on March 16th, 1944 to Samuel and Myrtle Crewe and raised in King’s Point, NL. On April 3rd, 1961 at the young age of 17 she married the love of her life, Wallace. They raised three beautiful children. Greta spent her life caring for her family and her home.

Greta loved her family tremendously. When her three children blessed her with grandchildren, her life became a whole lot sweeter. She cared and loved her grandchildren so much.

Greta loved to sew, knit and quilt. If she put her mind to it, her hands could make it. She was very involved with the Women’s Institute and loved attending Monday night meetings.

Greta was involved with the local Firettes and gave back to her community whenever she could and showed it in many acts of servanthood she displayed for others.

When Greta was well and active, on the weekends, you might find them at their camper trailer, enjoying time with their park friends. She lived an active life, boat trips with family, bonfires in her backyard, and the countless berry picking trips, which she absolutely loved. Trips and vacations were a favorite of hers, especially driving to Florida with her family in their early years. Even when sickness didn’t allow her to do the things she loved, Greta still enjoyed going for evening drives and ice cream with her husband, playing a game of skip-bo on Saturday nights, and watching her favorite game shows. But most of all, when all her family was around her dining room table, her heart was full. She loved to cook a big meal and have her family around to share it with.

Lunch was at noon and supper was at five. If you were hungry, you knew where to head!

And in the last four years since her great-grandchild was born, Greta’s heart burst with love for her. Her eyes would beam with pride. The love she had for her little grandchild was like no other.

She lived a wonderful life, and cherished every single moment. She lived her life for the Lord, and enjoyed being involved in Women’s Ministries. She will be missed tremendously; but our loss is Heaven’s gain, and we live with a glorious hope that we will see her again someday!

Proverbs 31:31 “Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at Heaven’s gates.”

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire Staff of Green Bay Health Centre and Doctor Todd Young.
