HAROLD DICKS STROUD
1931 – 2021
Harold Dicks Stroud passed peacefully away at age 89 surrounded by his family at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on February 1, 2021.
Harold was born July 5, 1931 in Angle Brook (Glovertown), the youngest son of Frederick and Elizabeth Stroud. He began teaching at the age of 16 in Glovertown. His career took him to several places in Newfoundland including Deer Lake, where he met and married Audrey (Price), his wife of forty-eight years, until her passing in January of 2014.
Harold and Audrey had two daughters, Lori and Debbie. They moved to Grand Falls in 1973, where Harold continued to teach at Helen Tulk Elementary until his retirement in 1991.
Harold enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a guide on the Terra Nova River in his early years, enjoyed camping with the family, and took great pride in his garden. He was active in the community of Grand Falls-Windsor and was a member of the Lions Club, Army Cadets, and taught guitar lessons.
Harold was most active in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. He hardly missed a Sunday service until his health would not permit. He taught Sunday School and Bible Study. Harold served as a lay reader and Eucharistic Minister for many years, and was a member of the church choir and Singing Sidesmen. He had a love for music and played many instruments.
Harold is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Elizabeth; wife, Audrey; brothers, Arthur, Carson, and Norman; sisters, Elsie (Dolly), Ida, Maude, and Margaret; and niece and nephew Lorna and Danny.
Leaving to mourn are his daughters, Lori (Gary) and Debbie (Rodney); granddaughters, Kari and Kayla; grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew; and a large circle of family and friends.
Harold was a kind and gentle man. He was devoted to his family and was a friend to many. His kindness and compassion knew no bounds. His passing has left a void that will never be filled.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and the ladies of Exploits Homecare for their care and compassion.
