Obituary for James Patrick "Jim" O'Dea

It is with great sadness that the family of the late James (Jim, Jimbo) O’Dea announce his passing suddenly at his home in Sandy Point on August 24, 2021 at the age of 55.

For many years Jim was known in the community as the friendly face of Bluebird Taxi and also known as Mr. Jim to many of the kids at daycare during his transportation to and from their home. He loved kids. This love became more profound when his only grandchild, Heidi came into his world. He called her “Poppy’s Pretty”. It gives us a sense of comfort knowing her poppy is watching over her every day.

Antiques were a large part of his life. Whether it be motorcycles, cars, trucks, hotrods or just any form of antique from couches to ornaments, he loved them. If you asked him where a certain part, or vehicle was and he didn’t have it he knew where to find it. It may have been in some random garden in the middle of nowhere, but he knew what town, street and back yard it was in. You couldn’t watch a show or movie with an antique in it because he would be so excited to see the vehicle, tell you what it was and what his favourite part of it was. By that time, the show or movie was over and he still wanted to rewind to look again.

Jim is predeceased by his father James O’Dea Sr.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his love Jodean, daughter Tera (Scott), son Brandon (Rebecca), Grand-Daughter Heidi, and step-children Noah and Faith .

Jim grew up in a large family that he left behind as well. His mother; Theresa, brothers; Don(Thelma), Cyril (Joanne), Danny, and Vince (Suzette). Sisters; Margaret (Jim), Catherine (Scott), Ursula, Lillian (Vince), Deborah (Will), Denise (Peter) and Brenda (Riley).

Also leaving to mourn are his special friend Jason Freake as well as a large circle of in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Jim had many acquaintances around and everyone who knew him said he was always up for a chat and a smile. He will be missed by so many.

In lieu of donations or flowers, we would greatly appreciate a donation be made in Jim’s memory to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
