Obituary for Jerry Sullivan

Passed away peacefully following a very brief illness, Jerry Sulivan of Grand Falls-Windsor. Jerry is predeceased by his parents, Annie and Jerry Sullivan, brothers Terry and David “Ab,” and faithful furry companion, Alfie. Left to celebrate his life are Susan and their children; Joanne (Brad Saunders), Michael, and Lesley, his most cherished grandchildren, Brendan and Danny, as well as his devoted brother, Reg, and sisters-in-law Rita, Bridget, Elizabeth, and Linda.
Jerry was blessed to find his calling as a radio broadcaster with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), from where he retired after a career of over 30 years. In an age where the radio served as a critical source of information, his voice brought news and current events into the homes of thousands. He interviewed countless people including premiers, artists and business people, but he especially valued sharing stories that highlighted the challenges and successes of everyday Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
His thirst for information extended to his personal life where he was an avid reader and follower of multiple media sources as well as a formidable and competitive trivial pursuit player. His readiness to engage in discussion and debate on politics and global current events will live on through his children.
Jerry used his talents to give back to his community. He took great pride in emceeing events and serving alongside friends as a member of the Kiwanis Club, where he chaired multiple music festivals and undertook the role of President. He assisted the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish with radio broadcast masses and was a member of the parish Liturgy Committee.
Friends and family will miss his quick wit, dry sense of humour and the candour with which he expressed his thoughts and viewpoints. He will be remembered as a kind soul who always took the time to ask others how they were doing, and listened to their responses with sincerity.
The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding compassion and care shown to Jerry and his family by Dr. Jared Butler. We also wish to thank the staff at Kingsway Living and the CNRHC.
