Obituary for Joan Susan Hodder (Inkpen)

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Joan Susan (Inkpen) Hodder, at the age of 84, at her home in Grand Falls-Windsor, after a brief illness.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Dr. Donald Hodder, her children Uda (Thomas Gerginis) and Gary (Deidre Barker) and her grandchildren Theodore (Ted), Calliope (Callie), Mary Jane and Catherine. She is predeceased by her brothers David (Rebecca) and Frank (Edna) and sister Shirley but leaves behind sisters Frances Collier (Peter deceased), Leta Bursey (Nelson) and Phyliss Baker (Leroy) as well as many nieces and nephews.

The Hodder family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Central Health Palliative Care Program, nurses Anne Blackmore, RN, NP, Susan Belbin, RN, and personal care workers Edna Barker, Charlotte Noseworthy and Tiffany Broderick who looked after Joan with great care and tenderness through her last weeks. Special thanks also to Reverend Kim Waite who gave great comfort and solace with her visitations to the home.

Joan was a lover of music, animals, fashion, fun and travel. From her time in Florida to her visits to Halifax, Montreal, Toronto and Oakville, she was always keen to meet and embrace people of all ages, elegantly dressed of course, to the nines. She was a woman of deep faith and a member of the Memorial United Church Senior Choir and UCW for over 40 years and active in the community of the church.

Visitations will be held at the Central Funeral Home on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, 3 February at 2 p.m. with a reception following at the church Christian Education Centre. The funeral service will be broadcast live at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064926542628

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her infectious smile, warm hugs, trusted ear, delicious fish cakes, divine Christmas fudge and Cherry Cake. She lived her life to the fullest with utmost joy and never failed to let everyone know the depth of her love, compassion and kindness, even blowing kisses to her soul mate and husband in her last days.

Donations in her name can be made to the Exploits Valley SPCA.

Sleep well, sweet mother, and let flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
