JUNE SAMWAYS

June 18,1939 – March 12,2021

It is with heavy hearts the family of the late Verona June Samways (nee Kane) announce her passing at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander NL at the age of 81.

June was born to William and Evelyn Kane in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. The second born of six children. She grew up in Windsor and met her future husband, Jim Samways. After living in various locations, they finally settled down in Springdale, NL to raise their family and Cedar Lane was the place she called home for nearly 51 years. June worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia for many years until she decided to enjoy retirement with her husband.

June loved to travel and explore new places be it near or far, any little hidden gem was all the more special. The Great Northern Peninsula held a special place in her heart as did the beauty of Prince Edward Island. In her earlier years, when health permitted, she enjoyed cross country skiing, trout fishing, berry picking or just a good boil up in the woods. She had an unbelievable talent of packing the perfect basket of goodies for family and friend picnics. She was an avid gardener for most of her life and later years she still managed to display the most beautiful potted annual flowers to compliment her perennial garden.

June was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church where she made some very special friends. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Family gatherings were a highlight and June never missed an opportunity to celebrate with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

June is predeceased by her parents William and Evelyn Kane, her husband Jim Samways and her brothers Bill, Michael and Roger Kane.

Left with cherished and loving memories are her three daughters, Kim Heath (Wallace) of Springdale, Karen Israel (Parker) of Edmonton AB, and Judy Samways (Harris Powell) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Grandchildren Marc Heath (Jennifer), Ryan Heath (Deanna Coombs), Samantha Israel, Jamie Powell and great granddaughters Sophie and Iyla Heath. Remembering with loving memories are June’s dear sister Ruth Hewitt and cherished brother Wayne Kane (Elsie) along with multiple nieces and nephews.

Donations in June’s memory can be made to The Lung Association, The Janeway Children’s Hospital or charity of one’s choice.
