Obituary for Kenneth Arthur Whelan

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Kenneth Arthur Whelan on June 9th, 2022. Our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Born on July 19, 1946 in Pilley’s Island, NL. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Christine of 51 years, his children Angela (Dartmouth, NS), Bonnie (Quinton) (Sharbou, ON), Anita (West Arichat, NS), Terrance (Tammy) (Eckville, MB), three grandchildren Ashley, Kelly and Kayla. He was predeceased by parents Jim and Nellie Whelan, brothers Byron, Don and sisters Rita and Audrey and granddaughter Dakota. He will sadly be missed by sister Margaret and brother Edmund (Joan) his extended family including his in-laws, niece, nephews and friends.

Kenneth worked at Abitibi Price for over 40 years, after retirement he moved to Dartmouth, NS to be near his family. He was always a part of any event that would include dancing, playing washers, darts, listening to Newfoundland tunes or a church service back home. Many hours sitting outside talking to his neighbours, he always had lots of love to share and a heart to give whether you were family member, a friend, a dog or a car. With deteriorating strength in the last couple of years he looked forward to an evening drive or a bus ride, just to be social and take in the views.

We would like to thank the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital and Oceanview Seniors Citizen Complex. Cremation has taken place at the Dartmouth Funeral Home.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2 pm at The Robert’s Arm Salvation Army Citadel with Inurnment to follow at the Pilley’s Island Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Kenneth can be made to a charity of choice.
