Obituary for Kevin Joseph Smith

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Kevin Joseph Smith announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on March 21, 2023 at the age of 73.
Kevin was a member of the Windsor Fire Department for 19 years. He retired from RCMP Detachment Cells in 2004. Predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Rose Smith; brothers, Cyril Smith and Earl Smith; sisters, Madonna Smith and Diane Smith; and son-in-law, Tim Sarty of Nova Scotia.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Sarah Smith; daughters, Corrina Sarty of Nova Scotia, Gina Richardson (Brett Richardson) of Ontario, Brenda Wootton (Chris Wootton) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Debbie Rideout (Chris Rideout) of Grand Falls-Windsor, and Tracey Power (Kirk Hancock) of Grand Falls-Windsor.
Also leaving to mourn are his grandsons, Kyle Goobie (Olivia Hiscock) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Michael Rideout, and David Wootton of Grand Falls-Windsor; granddaughters, Lauren Short and Nicole Wootton (Fernando Colp) of Nova Scotia; special grandchildren Jessica Hulan and Sam Hulan; sisters, Ruby Philpott of Blaketown, Betty Coish of Clarenville, Gertie Sansome (Turk Sansome) of Grand Falls-Windsor, and Peggy Braye of Grand Falls-Windsor; and brothers, Russell Smith of Grand Falls-Windsor and Gerry Smith of Grand Falls-Windsor; aunt Daphne and uncles Ed and Bob; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and a large circle of friends; along with his special friends William Tooker, George Mitchell, Pete Cornick, Roland Hart, and the Bell Island Boys.
Kev loved spending time at the cabin. “Cabin Choir Practice” with the guys, hunting moose, playing guitar, cooking for a crowd and spending time with his family. He dearly loved his wife of nearly 53 years, his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.
Father Joseph Uy will conduct the funeral mass from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Urn bearer is William Tooker. Honorary urn bearer is Gerry Smith. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.
