Obituary for Lillian Myra Howse (Mercer)

Lillian Howse
June 2,1929 - July 17,2022

Lillian Myra Howse entered this world on June 2, 1929, the middle of 5 children born to Myra and Victor Mercer. She graduated from Grand Falls Academy, where she met the love of her life, Roger Howse.
Lil and Rog were married on December 20, 1951 and raised 3 active children, Don, Tom and Joanne.
Lil was full of life and was very active in the sports community in Grand Falls. She loved golf in the summer and curling in the winter, and represented Nfld. nationally in both sports, where she made countless friends.
Lil was awarded a Lifetime Membership at the Grand Falls Golf Club, and at the presentation dinner she was surprised with a standing ovation, a wonderful tribute to her years of service and friendship at the club.
When the kids were grown, Lil and Rog had an active social life and loved to travel – to Florida most winters, to other parts of the world, and they especially loved visiting their 6 grandchildren in St. John’s, Toronto and Vancouver. The grandchildren cherished their Nana.
Each year Lil and Rog celebrated not only their wedding anniversary, but also the anniversary of their first date.
When Roger passed in 2020, Lil moved to Tiffany Village in St. John’s to be near her daughter Joanne. At Tiffany, she brightened the lives of residents and staff alike with her cheery nature and her refreshing humor.
Lil lived a rich and full life, and just before she passed she opened her eyes and said “Thank-you God for everything”, a wonderful finish to a wonderful life.
She was much loved and will be truly missed.
