Obituary for Lorne Paul Wellman

Lorne Paul Wellman
October 29, 1954 - January 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lorne Paul Wellman, age 69 announce his passing at Springdale on January 4, 2024.

Leaving to mourn with warm and loving memoires are his two children Ryan Wellman and Rebecca Wellman (Blake Bilyea)..

Also leaving to mourn with their whole hearts are his siblings: Leonard, Marilyn (Steve Glavine), Pauline, twin sister Lorna (Corbin Rice), Wayne (Fern), Wallace (Faye), Joe (Teresa), Kerry (Hazel) and Keith; Aunt Bessie Banfield, sister in law, Valerie Wellman, ex-wife Tally Learn and his loving companion dog, Honey Bunches.

Lorne will also be missed by many nieces and nephews who also loved him dearly.

Lorne was predeceased by his father and mother, Paul and Annie Wellman; his brothers David and Howard; sister Gloria and in-law siblings, Madelene, Sandy, Barbara and Ashley.

Lorne was the owner operator of his own private fire and security alarm company: Beothuk Safety and Security Systems Ltd for many years here in NL. He held many government contracts and travelled all over Newfoundland and Labrador completing work and inspections.

In 2011 he moved to Fort McMurray, AB. Unfortunately, in 2013 Lorne was diagnosed with cancer. After several major surgeries and with a great fighting, courageous spirit Lorne fought his battle. In April 2016 just before the great fire in the city of Fort McMurray he was told the cancer would probably take his life within 9 months. Lorne decided to move back home to Newfoundland and continue fighting the cancer battle; and for 7 ½ years he lived with and fought the cancer. Defeating all odds, he rebounded and lived alone for those extra 7 ½ years. At this home he completed many boat models and they are displayed proudly in his home. The children and family enjoyed the extra life time that was afforded to him. Lorne was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club and the Toronto Blue Jays; watching those night games with his two brothers almost every night.

Majors Joshua and Pauline Randell will conduct the funeral service from the Central Funeral Home Springdale Chapel at 1 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Interment will follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Cherry Crescent in Springdale.

Pallbearers are his loving son, Ryan Wellman; loving son-in-law, Blake Bilyea; brothers Kerry Wellman and Keith Wellman; nephew Tommy Wellman Boyde and Friend, Dave Tucker.

The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Todd Young, Main Street Medical Clinic for his ongoing, compassionate care to Lorne thee past 7 ½ years.

Thanks also to Michele Janes of Central Funeral Home for your love and compassion at this time.

Expressing of Sympathy Donations in Lorne’s honor may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
