Obituary for Madge Madeline Rowsell (Ryan)

Vera Madeline Rowsell
June 17, 1934 - May 16, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Vera Madeline Rowsell (Madge), at The Valley Vista Seniors Home on May 16, 2020 at the age of 85.
Devoted wife and life partner to husband Gerald Rowsell.
A loving Mother to four children- Gail (Fred), Kitty (Perry), Mike (Brynhild), and Pat (Kim).
Cherished daughter to predeceased parents- Edmund and Florence Ryan.
Adored sister to six siblings- Jesse (predeceased), Harold (predeceased), Percy (predeceased), Stella (predeceased), Boyce, and Nealie.
Beloved Nanny to six grandchildren- Caroline (Stephen), Chris, Beth-Ann (Shaun), Mikaela, Matthew (Erin), Dylan ( Derek) and six great grandchildren- Collin, Stacey, Tyson, Beau, Lillian, and Grayson.
She led by example. There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle. She was a strong, determined, and fiercely hard working person. She will be remembered for her welcoming nature and love of cooking, both of which kept her home full of many family and friends. She will be missed dearly and remain forever in our hearts.
Madge will live on through the cherished memories she made with her Grandchildren as expressed in the following poem;

Sweet rhubarb pie and homemade bread.
A gentle kiss on top of the head.
Kindness and strength, all mixed into one.
A table round with family, well fed and undone.
Fresh sheets on the line and a spoonful of batter.
Jokes and bickering, with the intention of laughter.
Chores made to look easy, with the snap of a finger.
The kitchen sparkling, no dishes to linger.
The needed card, always caught in her hand.
Where she would will it, the dart did land.
A careful eye, watching from the back deck.
Sleepy arms, wrapped around her neck.
The mildest voice saying, “it’s all right my love.”
Hands weathered from work, yet soft as a dove.
When we think of you Nanny, we will not feel alone.
Because your memory wraps us in the essence of home.
A special thanks to the nurses at the Valley Vista Seniors Home and the Springdale Hospital, who cared for “Aunt Madge” (as they called her) with kindness and respect during this past year. The compassion and care given, is much appreciated by the family.
*Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private Celebration Of Life will be held at a later date so family and friends may attend once restrictions are lifted.
