Obituary for Margaret Alfreda Wheeler (Bridger)

Margaret A. Wheeler
June 14, 1928 - January 22, 2023

Margaret died peacefully in her sleep at the Springdale Valley Vista Nursing Home in her 94th year. Much loved, she will be remembered by her beloved son Don and daughter-in-law Pauline, nieces, cousins, and dear friends from a long, well-lived life.

She was predeceased by Donald, her loving husband and business partner. Together they worked long hours to build a successful business enterprise that endured for over fifty years. Throughout her long life, she believed in the intrinsic value of hard work, thrift, and self-reliance.

While she enjoyed travelling throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and Bermuda, she also enjoyed exploring Newfoundland and Labrador or simply spending time at the cabin. Hunting and fishing were a big part of her life as well - especially in her younger years. Some may remember her also as a fantastic card-player - she was a formidable opponent playing anything from contract bridge, poker, cribbage or crazy eights.

In her day, she was very active in the community where she was involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, the Green Bay Hospital Board, and the Rural Development Board - as well she had a keen interest in politics, which never diminished.

Margaret’s hands were seldom idle as she was always had a knitting, crocheting or embroidery project to work on in her “spare time”. She was never happier than when she had paint brush in her hand!

Finally, Margaret wished to acknowledge the wonderful, compassionate care she received at Valley Vista Nursing Home, as well as the medical treatment provided by Central Health facilities in Springdale, Grand Falls and Gander.

Respecting Margaret’s wishes, her final arrangements have been entrusted to Mr. Ken Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes, where a memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
