Obituary for Mary O'Reilly (Antle)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary O’Reilly announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on July 13, 2023 at the age of 84.

Mary was born in Bishop’s Falls, daughter to the late Pearce and Margaret (McLaughlin) Antle.

Mary is survived by her children Phyllis (John), Sean (Carla), Karen, Paul (Wanda), her grandchildren, Laura, Mark, Erin, Patrick, and Faith, her siblings Marge, Madeline, Will (Joan), Kevin (Glenda), Helen, and Joan (Roger) and a large circle of family and friends.

Mary was predeceased by her first husband Pat O’Reilly, and her second husband Bill Penney, and by her siblings Pat and Jose, her brothers-in-law Jim, Earl, Charle, and her sister-in-law, Marg.

As a young woman, Mary worked for J Goodyear and Sons and had many fond memories of her time there. Mary loved her community, and was very active in Girl Guides Canada, the Altar Society, and was instrumental in the development of the Parents Association of Leo Burke Academy where she was president for many years. Mary was a very social person who loved organizing and bringing people together to have a good time. She had a love for family and was often called the Matriarch by her siblings. Her house was a very welcoming place for family and friends to gather, whether it was birthdays, anniversaries weddings or a simple Sunday dinner. It always felt like home. Mary had a creative touch, and cooking, baking, and needlework were among her many talents. In her later years, she took great pride in her flower garden overlooking the river where she spent many enjoyable hours. She is now looking forward to resuming the Big Card Game.
