Obituary for Mayu Lee

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mayu LEE announce her passing at the CNRHC in Grand Falls- Windsor on December 5, 2023. Mayu Lee at the age of 17, was the first Chinese woman that was allowed to leave China to come to Newfoundland to marry her late husband Hiland Lee.

Together they were well known for their Chinese restaurants in many towns on the island, especially for Lee’s Restaurant here in Grand- Falls, Windsor, NL. She was very well known in the Chinese community and helped many families immigrated here. She was a vibrant active woman that loved everyone and always gave a helping hand.
Predeceased by Hiland Lee (husband), Barry Lee (son), Zai Hua Chow (father), and Chin Tao Chow (mother). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons Alex (lorry) Lee Au of Mount Pearl, NL; and Colin (Tracey) Lee Au of Ottawa, Ontario. Daughters Delphine Lee Au of Mississauga, Ontario and Emily Lee Au of Lewisporte, NL.

Also leaving to mourn grandchildren- Daniel (Tonya), Dana( Craig), Diana (Kevin), Dailen, Jasmine (Dakota), Spencer, Alexa, Brennan, Ethan, Adam. Great- Grandchildren- Owen, Carson, Taylor, Dawson, Aaron, Chloe, and Maya.
Rev. Kim Waite will conduct the Funeral Service at the Memorial United Church on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11:00am. The pallbearers are Alex Lee Au, Colin Lee Au, Spencer Au, Aaron Au, Owen Payne and Craig Langdon.
Funeral Services will be livestreamed by Memorial United Church.
