Obituary for Melvin Gerard Jesseau

MELVIN GERARD JESSEAU
1951 - 2021

Melvin (Mel) Gerard Jesseau passed away suddenly at the age of 70 at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, NL on August 2, 2021 with his loving family and friends by his side. Mel was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years.

Mel met Sandi, the love of his life, in May 1970. They were married on Sep 15, 1973. They spent a couple of years in Baie Verte before moving to Goose Bay in June 1976. There they welcomed their first child on March 9, 1977 – a beautiful girl Marcia-Jo and then their second child on December 9, 1982 – a beautiful boy Jonathan. Mel loved his family more than anything, and would do anything for them like staying up all night to help with school and university projects. In 1991, Marcia-Jo wanted to see New Kids on the Block in Knoxville, so Mel made arrangements for the whole family to go on a road trip to attend the concert, much to Jonathan’s chagrin.

Mel worked with Department of National Defense in Goose Bay until February 1998. He then worked with Serco until July 2009 and then finished his working career with Churchill Construction in September 2011. Mel and Sandi retired to Grand Falls-Windsor in September 2012. He was a very social person who loved having a cup of tea and great conversation with anybody but he really enjoyed time with his breakfast buddies (Norm, Barry, Glenn, Ross, Robert, and Dave).

He was an avid swimmer all his life and really enjoyed his early morning swims at the local YMCA and all his chats with the staff and other members. Mel enjoyed life to the fullest and especially enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters Addison and Mallory, they were his beauties.

Pre-deceased by father Pius Jesseau Sr., mother Bridget (O’Dea) Jesseau, brothers Ronald and Pius Jr., niece Bonnie. Left with fond and loving memories are wife Sandi (Ireland), daughter Marcie (Paul) of Aylesbury, UK, son Jonathan (Heidi) of Sherwood Park, AB, mother-in-law Florence Ireland Bailey.

Also leaving to mourn sister Bertha (Richard), brother Paul (Ruth), granddaughters Addison and Mallory, Sandi’s siblings and other extended family. Special friends Bride & George, Ron & Joyce, and Olive.

Special thanks to Dr. Holmes, Dr. Tilley at the Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, Nursing staff of 4 South B at the Health Sciences Centre and Dr. Wendy House, Cancer Centre Grand Falls-Windsor.

Funeral mass to be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Interfaith Cemetery. Urn bearers will be his children, Marcie and Jonathan. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
