Obituary for Melvin John Rideout
Melvin Rideout
June 19, 1937 – April 7, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melvin Rideout of Buchans announce his passing at A.M. Guy Memorial Hospital on April 7, 2023, at the age of 85.
Predeceased by his parents, Solomon, and Barbara Rideout; sisters, Julia, Cranford, and Elsie Carter; brothers, Cyril, Sandy, Sydney, and Willis. Father in-law William Canning and brother in-law John Canning.
Leaving behind with loving memories his devoted wife of 62 years Joan (Canning); daughter Linda (Jim); grandchildren Jeffrey (Emily) and Laura (Theo). Special nephews and hunting and fishing buddies, Wayne, and Kevin; and caring niece Julia. Sister in-law Doris Rideout.
His second family; brother in-law Malcolm (Bernice); sisters in-law, Lillian Small, Irene Norton (George), Barbara Jenkins (Edmund) and Louise Burry (Albert).
A special thank you to the caring staff of A.M. Guy Memorial Hospital who were always so kind.
An extra special thank you to his fellow Buchaneers, who were so caring and helpful to both him and Joan. Especially Steve, Jeff and Dawn, Mildred, Donna, Sharon, Mike, and Barb.
Melv loved hunting, fishing, and berry picking. He was happiest spending time in the woods and on the water. After his retirement he spent his summers at the cabin in his beloved hometown and out in boat with his best buddy, Mac.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place at a later time.
Donation in Melvin’s memory maybe made to the Salvation Army in Buchans or Valley Pond.
