Obituary for Pansy Fogwill

Pansy (Hefford) Fogwill passed away peacefully at home in her beloved Millertown, NL, March 17, 2022.
Pansy was born in Buchans, NL on August 4th, 1934, to Kenneth and Bertha (Elliott) Hefford. She spent her childhood in Buchans and New Perlican. Her stories of jumping ice pans, chasing chickens and getting into mischief with her sisters delighted her children and grandchildren.

After graduating from high school, Pansy attended Memorial University where she studied teaching (because she was too young to get into nursing school). She accepted a teaching position in Millertown and it was there that she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Fogwill. Together, they welcomed two daughters into their hearts and lives: Roxanne and Petrina. In addition to raising her daughters, and acting as bookkeeper for Fogwill’s Garage, Pansy was active in Girl Guides, Firettes, cards and darts and many other aspects of Millertown community life.

Pansy was a true Newfoundlander. She believed there was no better place on earth. She loved nothing more than a good meal of Fisherman’s Brewis and we will always remember her dancing with her grandchildren to “The Mummers’ Song” or “Grey Foggy Day”. Pansy was an incredible cook. As her son-in-law, Rick, would say “She could cook a rock and make it taste good!”. Her homemade bread and chocolate chip cookies were legendary. She was a remarkably strong woman - small but mighty! She set an example of determination, work ethic, and unwavering love of family that will always guide those who knew and loved her.

After Dick passed away in 1992, Pansy found home and purpose living with Petrina and Rick in Heart’s Content and helping to care for her grandson Riley, with whom she shared a special bond. She always spent summers at home in Millertown, and we are so blessed that Rick and Petrina made it possible for her to spend her final months in the place she loved so much.

In addition to her husband, Pansy was predeceased by her her parents Kenneth and Bertha Hefford, brother Freeman Compton, sisters Evelyn Dearing, Madeline, Lucy and Sarah Hefford, and sister-in-law Mabel Rorke. Those left to cherish her memory include daughters Roxanne (Sandy) MacMillan, Petrina (Rick) Balsom; grandchildren Riley Balsom, Brenna MacMillan and Jessica MacMillan; sister Hannah (John) Lake; brother-in-law Les Dearing; sister-in-law Muriel (Malcolm) Squires; special friends the Blundons ; and many much loved nieces, nephews, and friends.

A service to remember Pansy will be held at The Millertown Community Church on Monday, March 21st, 2022, at 2:00 pm. There will be no public visitation. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ryan Peddle of Central Funeral Homes, Grand Falls-Windsor.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Millertown Community Cemetery.
