Obituary for Perry Freeman Burton

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7

It is with great sadness that we announce the home going of a dear husband, loving father, grandfather and brother - Perry Freeman Burton. Surrounded by his family, Perry slipped peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour at the Green Bay Health Centre, Springdale, NL on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the age of 74 years old. Perry was a member of the Springdale Pentecostal Church, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Canadian Sealers Association.

Perry was born in Twillingate, NL on June 17, 1948, the son of Dorman & Flossy Burton and began his life on the Horse Islands. He enjoyed growing up on this secluded island 15 miles from Pacquet, where his family resettled. Perry often reminisced and told many stories of fishing, sealing, turring and having fun on the island. To Perry, there were no fish, berries or birds quite like on the Horse Islands!

In 1968, Perry moved to Toronto, ON where he met the love of his life, Shirley Mae Baker. They married on July 17, 1971 and welcome their firstborn, a son, Rodney in 1972, followed by 2 beautiful daughters, Renee and Sherri-Lyn. They moved back to La Scie, NL in 1974 where Perry began his fishing career with his brothers Glenn & Wade on the Bayou Queen. Over the years, they built a very successful fishing legacy.

Perry was a true man of God who trusted, served & worshipped his Lord faithfully. He was a fierce prayer warrior and placed great value in family prayers. His family was his pride and joy. He never missed a chance to tell his children & grandchildren how much he loved them.

Perry battled skin cancer for many years and was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoma in November 2020. He won his battle with cancer in April 2021 but was given the dreaded news that it had returned in July of this year.

Perry is predeceased by parents Dorman & Flossy, parents-in-law, Arthur & Flossie Baker, brothers Hayward and Wilson.

Left to mourn is his wife of 51 years - Shirley
Son Rodney (Hettie) of Springdale;
Daughters Renee (Boyan Hillier) of Deer Lake and Sherri-Lyn (Ross Harvey) of Port-Aux-Basques.

Perry also leaves to mourn his brothers Glenn (Vida) Burton, Wade (Tassie) Burton; his sisters, Clarice Mills, Wanda (Danny) Izycki and grandchildren Olivia (Lucas) Perry, Victoria, Dimitri, Chase and Aaron.

Pastor L. R. Foster will conduct the funeral service at the Springdale Pentecostal Church on Thursday, August 11, 2022. Interment will be at the Cherry Crescent Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers are Glenn Burton, Wade Burton, Rodney Burton, Ross Harvey, Boyan Hillier and Dimitri Hillier.

The family extends our heartfelt gratitude to Perry’s medical team at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, Green Bay Health Centre as well as Dr. Todd Young for your kind and compassionate care.
