It is with great sadness that the family of Reta Elliott announce her passing at the A. M. Guy Memorial Health Center in Buchans, NL on Friday, July 9, 2021 at the age of 92.
Predeceased by her husband, George Elliott; parents Stanley and Susan Bowers; brothers Allan and Albert; sisters Sophie Flight, Agnes Lush, Bessie Kelly, Joan Burton, and Maude Saunders.
Reta was born in Harry’s Harbour on October 1, 1928. She moved to Buchans as a young woman where she met her future husband, George Elliott. They married in 1952. She worked at the Teacher’s Hostel for many years where she met many lifelong friends. She always loved to share a joke and a laugh, leaving everyone who knew her with lots of happy memories. She was a very caring person, always thinking of others. She loved cooking and sharing a meal with everyone who came to visit; you just had to remember to hold tight to your cup or she would whisk it away to wash!
Left with a lifetime of memories are her niece Bernice Miles (Calvin), her nephew Clyde Flight (Brenda) and their families. Special friends Elaine Burke, Dorothy Locke and Butch Howell. Sister-in-law, Evelyn Bowers and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A warm thank-you to Reta’s roommate, Elsie Rideout and her daughter, Melva, for all their kindness. We would also like to thank the staff at A. M. Guy Memorial Health Center for caring for our Aunt over the last five years. A special thank-you to Melanie Dixon, you truly are an angel. We are forever grateful for all you did for her.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted to A. M. Guy Memorial Health Center.
Funeral to take place from Buchans United Church on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 3pm. Interment to follow at Buchans Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Julia Caines of Central Funeral Homes.
