Obituary for Ricky Donald Giles
The family of the late Rick Giles is saddened to announce his passing at Green Bay Health Care Centre in Springdale on March 17, 2024 at the age of 62.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his partner Barbra Jackson; son Adam Giles (Hilary) of Ottawa, ON and daughter Crystal-Ann York of Richmond, BC. Also leaving to mourn are his father Donald Giles (Maxine Tizzard); sister Judy Warford (Larry) and grand-kids Aden Giles, Shannon Giles, Sophia Giles, Tila Ann Rowe and Anika Hudson.
Rick was known for his larger-than-life personality. When Rick was in the room, you knew he was there through the jokes he cracked or the loudness of his voice. Though Rick was not religious, some Sunday school lessons must have struck home, for if anyone knew how to love their neighbour as themselves, it was him. He always wore a new watch, sunglasses, or coat and was always willing to give that coat to someone in need. Though Rick went through his ups and downs, he never lost his love for others. Rick spent most of his life away, but in his last years with us, he got the chance to connect with his home and his family. He got to care for his mother in her last years, got to know his grandkids and connected with past friends and family. His presence, his love, and his jokes at your expense will be greatly missed. On March 17, Rick got his wish of not growing old, and we can’t hold it against him. For on that day, his most selfish act in a life full of generosity, was choosing to leave us early.
