Obituary for Robert Barker

Robert Barker
ROBERT BARKER
1942 - 2020

The family of the late Robert Barker of Toronto and Grand Falls-Windsor announce his death on January 1, 2020 at Scarborough General Hospital at the age of 77 years.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Ann (Hoven) of Fogo, his parents Andrew and Agnes Barker, sister-in-law Eileen (Osmond) Barker, niece Susanne Leroux, nephew Ronald John Hoven, parents-in-law Ronald and Johanna Hoven; and Ann's siblings Eileen, Mary Ellen, Frances, Leo, Michael, Mark, and Patrick.

Bob is survived by his daughter Kim, grand-children Shannon (Bulger), Michael, and Colin; and great grand-child Aubree Bulger. Bob is also survived by his brothers James, Louis, Andrew, and David; his sisters Caroline, Kathleen, Catherine, Margaret, and Cavell; along with his brother-in-law Ronald (Anne) Hoven; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins from St John's to Victoria, BC.

Bob spent most of his adult life in Toronto, but his growing up on Gilbert Street, in Grand Falls, left him with some of his fondest and most cherished memories. Bob was an avid reader of newspapers, magazines, and books; the latter included many a Western. Bob enjoyed watching movies and baseball about which he could tell you who the stars were on the big screen and the stars who took to the mound. And much like baseball, Bob as a long time widower, was always at home plate making the best plays he could for his family. Bob was a big man physically, but his school mates and co-workers at our Mill's mail room, and at Colgate Canada in Toronto, knew him only to be quiet and gentle; making no fuss. Bob loved a good scoff and in phone calls from home it was torturous for him to hear of any talk to do with boiled dinners, trout, cod tongues; and one of his favourites, moose of any kind.

Cremation has taken place, with interment at Fogo at a later date.

Rest in peace, our dearly beloved Bob; father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin.
