Obituary for Robert James Cater

Dad/Pop left to be with Mom/Nan, infant son Edwin, parents Elsie and Jack, siblings Pearl, May, Joyce, Ray, Betty, Terry (Tib), and Denny on October 19, 2023, at the age of 88.

Robert was born and raised in Grand Falls. He followed in his father’s footsteps going to work for the A & D company later known as Abitibi Price. Working his way from sweeping the floors, mail carrier, accounting department, rising to the Director of Industrial Relations when he retired in 1994 after over 40 years of service. Robert was a strong community member, coaching hockey when his boys were young, serving on several committees of memorial united church and the school board. He was a Past Master of Lodge Northcliff, part of the Masonic brotherhood for over 50 years.

Above all, Robert was a family man. Nothing meant more to him than family. He supported his parents, siblings, wife, children, grand children, great grandchild with his entire being. He was always available with a helping hand, listening ear, strong advice, and unwavering love. He had an uncanny ability to know what you needed and when, often before you did.

Leaving to mourn, his children Beverley (Gauthier), Stephen (Susan), Robert (Viva) and Susan, grandchildren Jeremy, Laura, Victoria, Stephen, Melanie (Andy), Andrew (Miranda), Adam, great-grandchildren Mason and Wilder, siblings Elsie, Ruth, Shirley, and Gordon.

At Robert’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.

Funeral services will be held at Memorial United Church, Grand Falls-Windsor on Wednesday October 25th at 11am. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend. After the service, there will be a time for fellowship and remembrance.
